Dr. Merzel was born March 24, 1959 and grew up in Rochester, NY. He is board certified in both Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine. He received his Bachelor's degree from Yeshiva University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He then attended the Medical College of Wisconsin in which he graduated in 1984. Dr. Merzel completed his fellowship training in Gastroenterology at Tufts University in Boston, MA. After completing his training in 1989, Dr. Merzel returned home and began practicing solely in Gastroenterolgy. Dr. Merzel has three children and enjoys traveling and playing golf.

Melodie was a member of the first graduating class of the Physician Assistant program at RIT. She comes to us from Highland Hospital where she practiced inpatient Gastroenterology.She has experience in Family Medicine, Hospital Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Urgent Care, and Occupational Health.She obtained her Masters of Physician Assistant Studies with a concentration in education from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2015.She is an adjunct faculty member at Monroe Community College, teaching Emergency Medical Services classes.

She spends her free time with her husband and two boys.She also enjoys volunteering as a firefighter and paramedic.
